Known for his relativity theory, E=MC2, Albert Einstein is considered to be the most influential physicist with his theories being used to influence science philosophy and modern physics.

Born on 14th March 1879 in Ulm, Germany to a middle level secular Jewish family, Einstein was a keen lover of science, mathematics and music from an early age. He attended school in Munich until 15 when he dropped out of school in attempt to avoid military duties claiming nervous exhaustion. He would later rejoin formal studies in Switzerland and grow in his passion to develop several theories in physics. Einstein died on 18th April 1955 in Princeton, USA after suffering abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Having denounced his German citizenship in order to avoid military service in 1896, Einstein became a Swiss citizen after having being stateless for 5 years.

Alongside getting many lifelong friends in Zurich, Einstein landed a job at the patent office after having been rejected many times for academic positions. The job gave him ample time to work and formulate his own theories.

1905 turned out to be his miracle year where he published four papers one of which earned him a Nobel Prize in 1921. This opened doors for him to travel around the world speaking to crowds of thousands regarding his theories.
Getting a fulltime academic post at the University of Zurich and later University of Berlin propelled Einstein’s work enabling him to continue publishing. He would later live Germany for USA, never to return. This move granted him the opportunity to become US citizen while retaining his Swiss Citizenship.

Einstein got three children from his first marriage to Meliva Maric; a daughter, Lieserl and two sons, Hans and Eduard. He later divorced Maric and married his first cousin Elsa.

Interesting to note, in 1952 Einstein turned down an offer presented to him by Israel’s premier to become Israel’s president.
